Technical Comparison between ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 vs ASUS ROG Matrix Platinum RTX 5090

The ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 and the ASUS ROG Matrix Platinum RTX 5090 share the same physical dimensions at 357.6 x 149.3 x 76 mm (14.1 x 5.9 x 3 inches), but their design and specifications make them very different cards. The Astral weighs around 3 kg while the Matrix Platinum comes in at almost 5 kg as per sources. Despite the identical size the massive weight of the Matrix edition means it will definitely require a GPU support bracket to prevent sag or can alternatively be mounted vertically for stability.

In terms of raw power the Astral delivers 3394 TOPs of AI performance while the Matrix Platinum steps up to 3593 TOPs, giving it a clear edge in AI workloads. The Astral’s engine clock reaches 2467 MHz in OC mode and 2437 MHz in default boost mode, whereas the Matrix Platinum pushes further to 2610 MHz in OC mode and 2580 MHz in default boost mode. This higher frequency combined with better cooling translates into more consistent high performance during gaming and professional workloads.

The Matrix Platinum also draws significantly more power which allows ASUS to push performance further. While this means higher power requirements and heat output, it also ensures that the GPU maintains top tier speeds without throttling. On the other hand, the Astral is lighter, easier to install and slightly less demanding on system power and cooling, which makes it more practical for builds that cannot accommodate the extreme requirements of the Matrix Platinum.

Overall the Matrix Platinum RTX 5090 stands out as the more powerful option with higher clocks, stronger AI performance and a premium build designed for enthusiasts who want maximum performance and stability, while the Astral RTX 5090 remains a more balanced choice for users who want flagship power without the extra weight and power draw.
